Haryana boasts of a good agro economy and is one of the fastest developing states of the country. The literacy rate in Haryana, as per the census of 2011, is 76.64%, which is higher than the national average of 74.04%. However, the female literacy rate is much lower than the average male literacy rate but the government is now launching many new schemes to encourage more and more girls to enroll in schools.
School Education in Haryana
There are pre-primary, primary, secondary, higher-secondary and degree education available in this state. There are around 10399 primary and 3838 middle schools in Haryana. Both government schools and private schools are there in Haryana. While private schools are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the government schools are affiliated to the Haryana Education Board.
Higher Education in Haryana
In Haryana there are 214 colleges among which 161 are colleges for general education. There are around 53 woman colleges in this state. Some of the important universities of Haryana include Central University, Ashoka University, Kurukshetra University, and NILM University. Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Jind Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jan Nayak Ch Devi Lal College of Engineering provide engineering education to the students not only from Haryana but from other states as well. Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management and Technology and M.M Institute of Management are important institutes offering quality education in management.
